# [Set Up Stack] - Leave a Stack

This page explains how to leave a Contentstack stack when you no longer need access or want to stop collaborating. It is intended for developers and stack users managing access, and should be used when you want to remove yourself from a stack (including understanding what owners must do instead).

### Leave a Stack

You can leave a stack when you no longer need access or want to stop collaborating. However, stack
[owners](/docs/developers/invite-users-and-assign-roles/types-of-roles#owner) cannot exit directly. They must
[transfer ownership](/docs/developers/set-up-stack/transfer-stack-ownership) to another user or
[delete the stack](/docs/developers/organization/organization-stacks#delete-a-stack).

To leave a stack, log in to your
[Contentstack account](https://www.contentstack.com/login/) and perform the following steps:
- Go to your [stack](/docs/developers/set-up-stack/about-stack) and click the “Settings” icon in the left navigation panel or use the shortcut key “S” (for Windows and Mac OS users).
- Click **Leave Stack** and confirm your action.

Once you leave the stack, you will lose access to its content. This action **cannot** be undone.

## Common questions

**Q: Can a stack owner leave a stack directly?**  
A: No. Stack [owners](/docs/developers/invite-users-and-assign-roles/types-of-roles#owner) cannot exit directly; they must [transfer ownership](/docs/developers/set-up-stack/transfer-stack-ownership) or [delete the stack](/docs/developers/organization/organization-stacks#delete-a-stack).

**Q: What happens after I leave a stack?**  
A: Once you leave the stack, you will lose access to its content. This action **cannot** be undone.

**Q: Where do I find the option to leave a stack?**  
A: Go to your [stack](/docs/developers/set-up-stack/about-stack), open “Settings” (or press “S”), then click **Leave Stack** and confirm your action.
